[标题]:Contact stress in disc cams with domes of flat-faced followers
[文摘]:ESDU 94011 introduces a Fortran program (ESDUpac A9411) that calculates at 1 degree rotation intervals the compressive stress in the contact region for cams with translating or swinging arm crowned flat-faced or domed followers, and also the peak value in the cycle and the rotation angle at which it occurs. Also output at those intervals are the contact dimensions and the reduction in separation of between the cam and follower. The method involves calculation of the force acting at the cam/follower interface due to follower system inertia, externally applied load and action of the return spring. The program includes an option to determine suitable values for spring rate and preload to maintain contact between the cam and follower; alternatively, for given values of those quantities it will check that contact is maintained. A check to ensure that profile undercutting is avoided is included. Other inputs required are the geometry of the cam and follower and their materials properties. A cam law must be used for each segment; six are provided or additional ones may be added by modifying the source code according to instructions provided. Alternatively, a file of follower displacement, velocity and acceleration at 1 degree rotation intervals may be input. A full description of the mathematical model used is included together with guidance on the use of the program to improve the design. It neglects any traction force and therefore applies only when the lubrication regime is mixed or elastohydrodynamic. The input to and output from the program are illustrated by a practical worked example of its use and warning messages that may be output are detailed together with suggestions for appropriate corrective procedures.
