[文摘]:The evolution of the fronts between solar wind streams with different velocities as they propagate from the sun to the earth's orbit is analyzed within the framework of a simple model. It is shown that the presence of shears of flow velocity near the fronts leads to the excitation of Kelvin- Helmholtz instability. Allowance for the turbulent viscosity due to the development of this instability allows one to explain the observed broadening of the leading fronts of high-velocity solar wind streams inside the earth's orbit.
