[文摘]:This paper presents some near-field properties of tip vortices generated by a rectangular NACA-0012 half-wing. Different end-cap geometries (flat, round, and elliptical), Reynolds numbers (0.5, 1.2 and 2 x 10 exp 5 based on the chord) and angles of attack (alpha = 5 and 10 deg) were considered in a low-speed wind tunnel. Measurements were performed by Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) over a cross flow plane at two chord lengths downstream of the trailing edge. Reynolds dependence of vortex properties such as vorticity or core size are investigated. Vortex wandering and its influence on high turbulence levels in the core region are analyzed. Finally, a Bi-Orthogonal Decomposition (Bi-POD) analysis of velocity fields is put forward. A Bi-POD-based entropy is defined in order to quantify the complexity of the vortex flow in each configuration. (Author)
