[文摘]:Magnetic particle imaging (MPI) is a new tomographic imaging technique capable of determining the spatialdistribution of superparamagnetic iron oxide particles at high temporal and spatial resolution. Reconstructionof the particle distribution requires the system function to be known. In almost all other tomographic imagingtechniques, a basic mathematical model of the system function exists, so that for reconstruction of an image,only measured data from the object under examination have to be provided. Due to the complex behavior ofthe particle dynamics, this is more complicated in MPI. Therefore, to date, the system function is measured in atedious calibration procedure. To this end, a small delta sample is moved to each position inside the measuringfield, while the magnetization response is acquired consecutively. However, although this measurement-basedapproach provides a good estimate of the system function, it has several drawbacks. Most important, themeasured system function contains noise, which limits the size of the delta sample and in turn the resolutionof the sampling grid. In this work, the noise induced limitations of the measurement-based system function areinvestigated in a simulation study. More precisely, the influence of the system function noise and the size of thedelta sample on the resulting image quality after reconstruction are analyzed.

[文摘]:The Naval Air Development Center's Fuel Fire Test Facility, its operation, and the impact of some past projects as related to fire protection are described. Sensored, fiberglass manikins are dressed in test uniforms and passed 20 feet through fuel flames. Four kinds of data are routinely collected during the passage through flames: (1) videotapes of the manikins emerging from the flames to enable observations of material flammability; (2) estimation of manikins' surface temperature; (3) photographs and video coverage of the manikins dressed in test uniforms before and after passage through the flames; and (4) calorimetric heat flux measurement of the fire. Also performed are prototype flammability tests such as the program for super flame resistant Nomex and polybenzimidazole blends. The goal of flammability testing is to estimate the amount of thermal protection afforded by the full-scale test article in a fuel fire. (C.E.)
